As we reported last July, the member states of the European Union have been moving toward implementation of a unitary patent system, establishing a single patent court that will cover 25 countries. Once established, the Unified Patent Court (UPC) will have exclusive jurisdiction in infringement and revocation proceedings involving European and unitary patents.

On June 25, 2013, a preparatory committee, consisting of all the signatory states to the Unified Patent Court Agreement released for comment the 15th draft of the Rules of Procedures of the UPC. Stakeholders, including practitioners, industry representatives, and other interested parties, are invited to comment on the draft rules until October 1, 2013. Respondents may send their comments to secretariat@unified-patent-court.org.
