Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery LLP is pleased to announce that Joseph H. Herron, David M. Kogan, and Amanda Lowerre O’Donnell have been elected partners and Timothy R. Baumann, Mark A. Borsos, Calista J. Mitchell, Christine A. Pompa, and Alison Aubry Richards have been made equity partners of the firm. David is based in Fitch Even’s Los Angeles office, and the other attorneys are based in our Chicago office.
Joseph H. Herron represents clients in patent prosecution, patent litigation, post-issuance matters, and opinion work, as well as other intellectual property matters, in the U.S. and abroad. He has worked with a number of large companies in industries ranging from fuel cells and reformers, hand and power tools, medical devices, and food manufacturing processes and compositions. Prior to beginning his legal career as a patent agent, Joe worked as a chemical engineer researching and designing fuel cell applications. He earned his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, graduating with high honors, and holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.
David M. Kogan has over a decade of intellectual property law experience, representing clients in patent prosecution, litigation, and opinion matters, as well as global IP portfolio management, strategic development, and licensing. He has assisted clients with a broad spectrum of technologies including mechanical, medical, and wireless devices, biotechnology, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals, as well as computer software. David earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School. He holds both a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences and an M.S. degree in Molecular Pharmacology & Toxicology from the University of Southern California.
Amanda Lowerre O’Donnell focuses her practice primarily on patent prosecution, patent licensing, commercial clearance assessments, and patent portfolio management. Amanda counsels clients in the U.S. and abroad working in a variety of technical fields and product applications, including electronic components, energy and renewable energy applications, food processing, packaging technology, and medical devices. In addition, she regularly advises clients on business method protections and regarding open-source software issues. Amanda graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School and earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, cum laude, from St. Louis University.
Timothy R. Baumann has a broad-based intellectual property law practice, with substantial experience working with clients in the acquisition, protection, and management of all forms of intellectual property. He is particularly skilled in complex patent prosecution, infringement and validity opinions, reexamination proceedings, and patent licensing agreements. Leveraging his prior experience as a design engineer and a software engineer, Tim advises clients involved in technologies including acoustic devices, automotive and consumer electronics, medical devices, computer software, and power systems. Tim graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law and holds B.S. degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Iowa State University.
Mark A. Borsos has comprehensive litigation experience in discovery, summary judgment briefing, pretrial preparation, settlement negotiations, trial, and appeals. In addition, Mark regularly assists clients with patent preparation and prosecution, often taking patents through reissue and reexamination proceedings to advance his clients’ licensing and litigation objectives. His practice also includes dispute resolution, trademark prosecution, and freedom-to-operate analysis. Mark addresses IP concerns relating to a wide variety of technologies, including medical devices and therapies, pharmaceuticals, construction and building products, food processing and packaging, lighting technology, athletic garments and padding, and automobile transmissions. Mark earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and his B.S. in Biology from the University of Michigan.
Calista J. Mitchell joined Fitch Even in 2005 after graduating with honors from Chicago-Kent College of Law. She focuses her intellectual property law practice primarily on domestic and global patent prosecution and on freedom-to-operate, patent validity, and patentability opinions. Calista also works with clients on IP strategy and licensing. She represents clients in industries including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food science, medical devices, and mechanical technologies, among others. Calista earned her B.S. degree in Microbiology from the University of Iowa.
Christine Abuel Pompa’s practice focus is on intellectual property litigation and opinion counseling. She has represented clients in a number of technical fields including medical devices, automotive, food processing, agricultural equipment, telecommunications, and spatially-referenced imagery. Christine earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, graduating cum laude, and holds a B.A. in Biology from Wayne State University. Selected for inclusion in Illinois Super Lawyers – Rising Stars from 2010 through 2014, Christine has been recognized as one of the state's top up-and-coming lawyers.
Alison Aubry Richards is a trial lawyer whose practice focuses on patent disputes. Alison has significant trial experience, including in a number of recent trials in the Eastern District of Texas. She has litigated patent cases in technical areas including semiconductors, photolithography, integrated circuits, computer software, imaging systems, mobile electronics, online payment systems, human genetic therapies, and medical devices. Alison was chosen for inclusion in Illinois Super Lawyers – Rising Stars for 2014. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and earned a B.S. in Finance, summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois.
